Why We Chose RV at Olympic
After spending a week in the quiet forests outside Forks, we moved to Port Angeles to explore the northern side of Olympic National Park.
We wanted a campground that would put us close to Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, the Black Ball Ferry to Victoria, and everything else the area has to offer.
RV at Olympic ended up being exactly what we needed.
While it has a completely different feel than RW Services RV Park, it complemented our trip perfectly. Instead of a secluded, rural setting, this campground offered convenience, modern amenities, and a great location while still feeling quiet and safe.
Our Campsite
We stayed in a back-in, full-hookup site.
Our particular site was a little tight for our fifth wheel. We later learned the campground was still working through some reservation filters on its new website, so our rig had been assigned to a site that wasn’t the best fit.
To their credit, the staff immediately offered to move us.
Since we had already settled in, we decided to stay where we were, and it worked out just fine for the week.
Our site had a mulch surface, although many of the other sites throughout the campground were concrete.
Everything worked exactly as it should.
Water pressure was excellent, our hookups gave us no problems, and the site was level enough that setup was quick and easy.
A Clean, Comfortable Campground
One of the first things we noticed was how clean and well cared for the campground felt.
Everything looked new, well maintained, and thoughtfully laid out.
Although we were much closer to town than we had been in Forks, it never felt busy or noisy.
Evenings were quiet, campers mostly kept to themselves, and we always felt completely safe walking around the property.
The campground host was also incredibly friendly.
One day while we took the ferry to Victoria, he even watched Willie for us.
That level of kindness meant a lot and says a great deal about the people running the campground.
Family & Pet Friendliness
If you’re traveling with kids, this campground is hard to beat.
The playground is easily one of the nicest we’ve seen at any RV park.
It isn’t just a swing set tucked into the corner of the campground.
It’s a large playground with multiple slides, climbing structures, monkey bars, and plenty of room for kids of different ages to play together.
Our kids spent hours there throughout the week.
The campground also has a large fenced dog park with plenty of grassy space to run, along with waste bags for convenience.
Willie appreciated having room to stretch his legs after long days riding in the truck.
It felt like a campground that genuinely welcomed families traveling with pets.
Laundry & Amenities
One unexpected highlight of our stay was finally catching up on laundry.
If you travel full-time in an RV, you know the feeling.
Our small washer is great for everyday clothes, but comforters and bedding are another story.
The campground’s laundry room had large commercial machines that handled everything with ease.
It wasn’t busy during our stay, and although I don’t remember the exact cost, I believe we spent around $20–30 to wash all of our bedding.
For us, it was absolutely worth it.
Sometimes fresh sheets after a week of adventuring feel just as rewarding as another hike.
Cell Service & Connectivity
We had excellent Starlink connectivity throughout our stay, and cell service was reliable as well.
For anyone working remotely while traveling, we had no concerns staying connected here.
Location
One of RV at Olympic’s biggest strengths is its location.
Approximate drive times from the campground:
- Hurricane Ridge: About 1 hour
- Olympic National Park Visitor Center: About 20 minutes
- Lake Crescent: About 20 minutes
- Salt Creek Recreation Area: About 1 hour 10 minutes
- Black Ball Ferry Terminal: About 45 minutes
- Costco (Sequim): About 20 minutes
- Downtown Port Angeles: About 15–20 minutes
Whether we were exploring Olympic National Park, stocking up on groceries, or heading to Canada for the day, everything felt within easy reach.
Final Thoughts
We would absolutely stay at RV at Olympic again.
What stood out most wasn’t any one feature—it was how easy this campground made our week.
We could spend the day exploring Hurricane Ridge, catch up on laundry in the evening, let the kids burn off energy at the playground, take Willie to the dog park, and still be just minutes from groceries and everything else we needed.
It struck a balance that’s hard to find.
Modern without feeling crowded.
Family-friendly without feeling chaotic.
Convenient without sacrificing the peaceful atmosphere that makes camping enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a comfortable home base while exploring Port Angeles and the northern side of Olympic National Park, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
