Mountain View RV Park (Arco, Idaho) Review
https://www.mountainviewarco.com
When we booked Mountain View RV Park, we were expecting a fairly basic campground.
After all, Arco sits in a pretty dry, rugged part of Idaho, and most people passing through are there to visit Craters of the Moon National Monument or ride the many ATV trails near by.
Instead, we were pleasantly surprised.
For a week, this little campground became a comfortable home base with huge sites, mature shade trees, green grass, and enough room that it never felt crowded. After driving through miles of lava fields and desert, pulling back into camp each afternoon almost felt like finding an oasis.
We paid $350 for the week (about $50 per night) for a 50-amp full-hookup site, and overall we thought it was a good value.
One of the first things we noticed was how spacious the sites were. We never felt packed in next to our neighbors, and although everyone was friendly, people mostly kept to themselves. It was quiet, peaceful, and felt very safe despite not being a gated campground.
A beautiful cloudy day at Craters of the Moon- a main attraction while staying at Mountain View RV Park
One of the Best Dog Areas We’ve Seen
Traveling with Willie means we’re always paying attention to how dog-friendly a campground really is.
Mountain View did a great job.
Instead of simply having a patch of grass labeled as a dog park, they created a large fenced area with toys, waste bags, and plenty of room for dogs to run. Willie made a new friend almost immediately—a German Shepherd staying at the campground—and watching them wear each other out became part of our daily routine.
Since the campground has such a nice dog park, we honestly didn’t mind one of their bigger rules.
To protect all of the grass they’ve worked so hard to grow, they don’t allow things like pet fences or outdoor mats on your site. Normally we’d set up our portable dog fence, but in this case it wasn’t really necessary.
The campground was simply too nice to complain about them wanting to keep it that way.
The L7 Grill & Taphouse
One thing that makes Mountain View a little different is that it shares the property with the L7 Grill & Taphouse.
We never actually ended up eating there, but every time we walked through to the office it looked like somewhere we’d happily grab dinner after a day exploring. The atmosphere felt lively without being loud, and the menu focuses on hearty comfort food with craft beer on tap.
Amenities
We didn’t use the showers or laundry during our stay, but both were available, and everything we saw around the campground was clean and well maintained.
The campground also accepted package deliveries without any issues, which is always appreciated when you’re living on the road full-time.
Wi-Fi is available, although we simply used our Starlink during the week and never had any connectivity problems. Cell service was also reliable for us.
One thing we appreciated was how they separated the longer-term residents from the overnight travelers. It helped the campground feel organized while still creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
Things to Know Before You Book
Mountain View sits in a good location for exploring Craters of the Moon, but keep your expectations realistic about the surrounding town.
Arco is small. Grocery stores, shopping, and restaurants are limited, so we’d recommend arriving with most of what you’ll need for the week.
One thing we did notice was how many people were traveling with ATVs and side-by-sides. The surrounding public land offers plenty of riding opportunities, and it’s clearly a popular destination for that crowd.
The only thing we weren’t crazy about was the occupancy policy.
Reservations include two adults, and children over nine years old incur an additional nightly fee. For our family that meant paying extra for one of our kids. It’s certainly the campground’s choice, but as a traveling family we’ve never been big fans of campgrounds charging additional fees based on children’s ages.
It wasn’t enough to keep us from staying here again, but it’s worth knowing before you book.
Would We Stay Again?
Absolutely.
Mountain View RV Park exceeded our expectations and turned out to be one of the nicest campgrounds we stayed at in Idaho.
It was clean, quiet, spacious, dog-friendly, and well cared for. Between the oversized sites, all the shade, the green grass, and the welcoming atmosphere, it felt like a comfortable place to come home to after each day of exploring.
If you’re planning to visit Craters of the Moon or explore the Arco area, we’d happily recommend staying here.
